1. Space X Lauch
It has been a very BUSY couple of weeks for space and it's not ending anytime soon! SpaceX and the ISS national lab are gearing up for another cargo launch to the ISS. This will be the 4th cargo vehicle to dock at the space station in the past 3 weeks. Because the ISS just received another crewed soyuz to the station by tomorrow there will be 6 transport vehicles docked to the ISS.
With all of the cargo vehicles at the station that means a lot of cargo unloading and installation of materials! Sergey Prokopyev posted this photo of him installing a docking mechanism that was dismantled to make unloading easier. On earth this would have taken 5 people to move but in space it only takes one.
2. Chatting with Serena
Serena Spoke to students at Texas A&M this week via a downlink by NASA. She spoke to medical students, as a doctor herself, she was able to answer questions the students had about how human bodies react in space.
3. Cimon is alive and well
A few weeks ago Alexander Gerst installed Cimon on board the ISS and this week we are able to really see what cimon is able to do! It's one thing to see artificial intelligence on earth but its another thing entirely to watch it happening in SPACE. Make sure you watch this video all the way through to see Cimon get sassy with Alex.
4. Welcome to Bennu
OSIRS-REx launched on September 8th 2017 on a mission to go explore an astroid near earth. It took two years to arrive but it arrived Monday, December 3rd and it is expected to follow the asteroid mapping its surface and eventually finding a place to grab a sample of the asteroid and bring it back to earth. OSIRS-REx is expected to return back to earth in 2023 where it will land in a utah dessert where eager scientists will be waiting.
5. Another day another Launch
After expedition 57's launch was aborted in October we finally have a full crew on board the space station! Ann McClain, David Saint-Jacques, and Oleg Kononenko joined Alex, Serena, and Sergey on board the ISS.
There is always some great information about the crew and space agencies in the longer videos so if you want some background noise watch this one. If you want to just skip to the good part here is the shorter version of the launch! The Docking!
Finally the welcome ceremonies and pre-hatch opening events. Again there is always good information given in the longer live streams otherwise skip ahead to around 45 min in!
