1. HAppy Thanksgiving!
Even in space they get to celebrate thanksgiving! This week the crew had a thanksgiving celebration all the way up in space, this was a particularly cool experience for Alex and Sergey because their home countries do not celebrate thanksgiving!
2. Space STation 20th
The celebrations of the space stations 20th anniversary continue with a live interview with the crew who answered questions from twitter, facebook, youtube and more!
A few words from the crew Interview 3. Progress Launch
Over the past few weeks the ISS has had some traffic. After last weeks Cygnus launch we also had the Russian Progress 71 launch and dock happen this week! There are currently two cargo ships docked at the ISS. The Cygnus was captured by using the Canada Arm by Alex and Serena and the progress docking was guided by Sergey and Alex.
Sergey posted some photos of each of the ships docked at the station.
4. Expedition 58 Crew
The expedition 58 crew is gearing up to launch to the ISS next week. Early in October expedition 57 was aborted several minutes into the launch due to a booster failure on the Soyuz. After weeks of investigation they have figured out what went wrong and we can now move forward with the next crew launch. On this expedition we have veteran Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko who will become the commander of the station, this will be his 4th expedition. Canadian Astronaut David Saint-Jacques and NASA Astronaut Anne McClain will be joining for their first expedition to the ISS.
5. It's a Big day on Mars!
It was a big day for NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory InSights, a Mars probe that launched in May, has successfully landed on mars!
Watch the live event!
Now this is really long but it is definitely worth the watch because it has some really great information! If you want a brief overview of what the mission is about but don't want to take an hour to watch the whole video like I did then just enjoy the first 10-20 minutes to get an understanding of the mission.
Touchdown on Mars!
For those who couldn't make it through the video above, this is the moment JPL received signals of the successful landing.
If you didn't catch this epic moment here is a gif of the best secret handshake playing over and over again that has been immortalized for ever.
Congratulations!!
Congratulations have been spread across the internet from the European Space Agency and many more. Over the next few months insights will be hitting a few more mile stones as the first sets of data are received and each project is deployed. Follow NASA's InSight mission on all their social media accounts to stay updated!
